Junior Process Engineer

Summary

 

Energean is seeking to employ a Junior Process Engineer to join our Operations team in Athens, reporting to the Head of Projects. The Junior Process Engineer will support the design, optimization, and operation of processes that capture, transport, and store carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from industrial sources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The primary goal for the Junior Process Engineer is to help optimize the capture and storage of CO₂, contributing to global efforts to mitigate climate change while gaining experience in the emerging field of carbon management.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Assist in the design and optimization of CO₂ capture processes (e.g., chemical absorption, physical separation, etc.).
  • Support process development from initial concept through detailed engineering and implementation.
  • Prepare process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data to ensure CO₂ capture and storage systems operate efficiently.
  • Monitor system performance and identify areas for improvement to enhance capture efficiency and minimize energy usage.
  • Conduct process simulations using software (such as Aspen HYSYS or equivalent) to evaluate system behavior under various conditions.
  • Assist in creating and updating process models to optimize performance and reduce costs.
  • Ensure that all processes comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations related to CCS operations.
  • Participate in safety reviews and hazard assessments (HAZOP, HAZID).
  • Assist in preparing technical reports, operational manuals, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records of process performance, modifications, and improvements.
  • Provide engineering support during commissioning, start-up, and operational phases of CCS facilities.
  • Assist with technical evaluations of vendors and equipment used in the capture, transport, and storage of CO₂.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including senior engineers, geologists, environmental scientists, and project managers, to deliver project objectives.
  • Support continuous communication between process engineering, field operations, and research teams.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or process engineering (preferably related to oil and gas processes, or refineries).
  • Master’s degree in chemical engineering will be considered a plus
  • Member of Engineering Societies/Chambers (e.g., Chartered Engineer, Member of the Greek Technical Chamber)
  • 0-2 years of experience in process engineering, preferably in the energy, oil & gas, or environmental sectors.
  • Familiarity with process design software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, MATLAB, or equivalent).
  • Understanding of process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Knowledge of carbon capture technologies is an asset.
  • Hands on experience in design tools i.e. CAD Design
  • Excellent command of the English and Greek language (oral and written communication) and able to produce technical documentation in both Greek and English.
  • Computer literate and experienced with MS Office suite of applications.
